beef and beer

[info]meneathiel and I were discussing recipes the other day. Here are my winter favourites, both from VintageRecipes.net:

Pot Roast of Beef with Browned Potatoes
dw's tip: get a roast marked "pot roast" or the worst cut you can find.

The Beef Stew recipe, remarkably similar to the pot roast recipe.
dw's tip 1: pour in a Guinness right before the hot water.
dw's tip 2: use "stewing beef", not chopped sirloin.

Both recipes are super-easy, highly configurable, and create their own perfect gravy. Huge hits at my house, usually on Sunday nights.

What are your cold weather favourites?

And [info]meneathiel, because you asked, my current favourite beer: Okocim
From Okocim Brewery, Poland

Alright, bullet-post cuz I am still that far behind

  • Did you know IJ maxes out at skip=1000? It's also miserably slow back there in the archives. Pixel dust in the transducer, maybe?

  • I've been successfully avoiding X-Files movie spoilers! I'm determined to see it this week, though.

  • Have you seen the Tony/Maxxie Skins vid You Make Me Wanna by obsessive24? HOT.

  • And the True Blood trailer! (youtube) And relatedly, Blood Copy.

  • The SGA folks answer a few questions at i09. (spoilery for S5)

  • I'm working on a music mix for Bring Back the Porn 0908. So far, I think it's going well.

  • Watching HBO's Generation Kill. It's a Jarhead/Band of Brothers xover. Not sure how I feel about it yet.

And because I haven't seen anything about it yet,
S5 SGA spoilery stuff )

More later when I actually get, y'know, somewhere actually close to caught up.

5 H songs

The five songs meme:

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

[info]anniemoon gave me the letter H. It turns out I have a lot of songs that begin with H, and it's difficult to limit the list to just 5, but here goes:
  1. Bauhaus - Hope
I'm pretty sure it's because of the bass that I love this song. I heard it for the first time only about five years ago, but it makes its way into the rotation regularly.

  2. Love and Rockets - Haunted (When the Minutes Drag)
It makes sense to follow Bauhaus with Love and Rockets, and this is the song that completely turned me on to L&R. This is the 8:02 version, not the USA Mix.

  3. HorrorPops - Hitchcock Starlet
Because Patricia Day is just that cool.

  4. Cloud Room - Hey Now Now
It's catchy and I like it. *shrug*

  5. The Hourly Radio - He Said She Said (Piano Belly remix)
You likely haven't heard this one before, and this band is really growing on me.

All 5 are available in a SaveFile project.
